questions, answered

Including the ones where the honest answer is that Seam is not the right tool.

What Seam is

What does Seam do?
Seam analyses your Shopify store every day and emails you one insight about what actually changed. It reads the last 24 hours of orders, customers, products and traffic, finds the thing most worth knowing, and writes it as a short paragraph. There is no dashboard to open and no report to interpret.
How is this different from Shopify Analytics?
Shopify Analytics is a place you go; Seam is something that arrives. The underlying figures are Shopify own, so Seam is not a more accurate source, it is a different delivery mechanism. Analytics answers questions you already have. Seam is for the days you would not have opened it at all.
What does a daily email actually look like?
One headline and one short paragraph. A typical one reads: order volume was well above your 28-day average, one product accounted for most of it, and a named campaign was the top attributable source. Where nothing meaningful happened, it says so rather than inflating a normal day into an event.
Does Seam send anything other than the daily email?
Yes. A Week in Review section arrives on Sundays and a separate Month in Review email on the first of the month. These exist because trend and cohort questions are genuinely different from daily ones and do not belong in a daily note.
Will it just tell me things I already know?
Sometimes, and on a small store frequently. Daily movement below roughly 30 orders a day is mostly randomness, which is a property of arithmetic rather than of the product. If you run a low-volume store, read the guide on reporting cadence before subscribing to anything daily, ours included.

Setup and delivery

How long does setup take?
Install from the Shopify App Store and pick a delivery time. There is no tracking script, no theme edit and no tag manager, because Seam reads your store through the Shopify Admin API rather than by observing your storefront.
When does the email arrive?
At the time you choose in settings. Generation runs hourly so the send lines up with your preferred delivery hour rather than a fixed global schedule.
Why does the email sometimes say "this week" instead of "yesterday" for traffic?
Because Shopify session data for yesterday is often still incomplete early in the morning. When that happens Seam falls back to the last seven complete days and labels the window as such. A wrong label would be worse than a missing number, so it never calls a seven-day window yesterday.
Can I change the tone of the writing?
Yes, on the Pro plan, using a five-level scale from dry and factual through to considerably less restrained. The wording changes; the numbers behind it do not.
Can I tell Seam what to focus on?
Yes, on Pro, through a single standing instruction that applies to every email. Something like "always break sales down by channel" is applied to daily emails and to the week and month reviews.

Data and privacy

What data does Seam read?
Orders, customers, products and traffic data from your store, through the Shopify Admin API. Reading session and traffic data requires Level 2 protected customer data approval from Shopify, which involves a data protection review; Seam has been through that process.
Does Seam add tracking to my storefront?
No. There is no script, pixel or theme app embed. Nothing is injected into your storefront and removing Seam does not require touching your theme.
What happens to my data if I uninstall?
Access ends immediately on uninstall, because the API token is revoked by Shopify at that moment. Shopify data deletion requests are handled through the standard compliance webhooks.
Can Seam write to my store?
Only in one narrow case, and only if you allow it: notable days can be written as annotations onto your own Shopify analytics charts. It does not create, edit or delete products, orders, customers or discounts.

Pricing

How much does Seam cost?
There is a free plan and a Pro plan at $5 per month, billed through Shopify. Free covers the daily briefing email, the feed of past insights, the standard AI model and shareable insight images.
What do I get on Pro?
Everything in Free, plus advanced AI models, tone of voice customisation, the standing focus instruction, the deeper "but why" analysis on any insight, and priority support.
Is there a free trial?
There is no time-limited trial, because the free plan is not time-limited either. Run on Free for as long as you like and upgrade if the extras are worth five dollars to you.
How is billing handled?
Through Shopify billing, on your regular Shopify invoice. Cancelling is done from the app subscription page or by uninstalling.

Integrations

Can Seam post to Slack or Microsoft Teams?
Yes. Paste a Slack incoming webhook URL or a Teams workflow webhook URL into the Integrations page and the daily, weekly and monthly notes are posted there as well as emailed.
Can I query my Seam history from another tool?
Yes. Seam exposes a read-only MCP server, so an AI assistant that supports MCP can list past insights, search them, and pull the underlying daily metrics. Access uses a per-store token you generate and can revoke from the Integrations page.
Does Seam work with stores outside the UK and US?
Yes. It reads whatever currency and timezone your store is configured with. One caveat worth knowing: Shopify closes sessions at midnight UTC regardless of your store timezone, so session days and trading days do not line up for stores far from Greenwich.

still deciding?

The free plan is not time-limited. Install it, read a week of emails, and decide with evidence.
